Forums     Plugins     Analogflux Suite Resampling an Impulse?

Suppose I load up a 96KHz impulse into The AnalogFlux Impulse engine.

And suppose the actual track is at 44.1KHz?

Will the engine resample automatically to 44.1 from 96, or not?

And does it actually matter on an impulse such as an SSL EQ type one?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, the impulse will be resampled.  But bear in mind that resampling applies some kind of low-pass filtering and so frequencies between 20-22kHz will be attenuated increasingly - this is made to minimize aliasing effects.

There's some issue, however, with dirac-like impulses (with zero predelay).  Since resampling generates a kind of 'pre-echoing' some initial silence is needed, otherwise impulse will be distorted.  I will probably implement a fix to this in the Impulse plug-in (its latency will be increased by 256 samples due to this fix).

neilwilkes, I'm a software only guy and I heard about hardware mixers with SSL.  I'd like to check it out also, do you simply apply it on the master ? where do you put it in the mastering chain ?  Can you give a link to a good impulse of SSL to check out ?

Thanks in advanced man :)

There is a set of impulses over at created by Pipelineaudio, and one of these is a set from an SSL device.

Now - there are a couple of ways to get these.

A/.  Nip over to Noisevault & get them, or

B/.  Drop me an email and I will send them to you.

As for usage, it depends what you want to do.

I use them in a couple of different ways:

A/.  On an actual track insert, through the impulse modeller in this plugin pack - AnalogFluxImpulse.  Does the job.

B/.  Use a group channel or an FX channel, and feed the signal to that using either the same convolution tool or else PristineSpace - which gives you more control.

C/.  Track insert & PristineSpace.

D/.  Master buss insert & either one of the convolution tools, or

E/.  Set up in PristineSpace in Serial convolution mode.  Insert or master buss insert, or even FX/Group insert.  Using this method, you can have the SSL first, then into a comp, then into a cab and finally into a verb or something.
