I mean i would be using it more for instruments than vocals, i love the quality of the voxengo plugs, i bought elephant a few weeks ago. Would this be as usable as a normal channel strip? I hate to seem so foolish

I cannot suggest Voxformer for usual intrack use, because it won't deliver enough control for all music sources. Voxformer is mainly usable for vocals and guitars. For everything else it may or may not be suitable - due to absence of attack/release controls, and general compression behavior.

thanks for the honesty, looking forward to getting some more of your plugs

I just bought Voxformer, and I expect to use it as a general channel strip, not just vocials, but bass, guitar, drums, etc. Aleksey's right that it doesn't provide extensive controls, which means it has a certain "character" (which may or may not be appropriate). So, it may not be the best (or only) choice for all sounds. You will probably want to supplement it with more "surgical" plugins for when you need more control or different sound. Still, it's great for quick and easy adjustment, and it sounds great!
And I'm loving that saturation! I appreciate the controls being able to go to extremes!

Old thread, but I want to mention that I use Voxformer for flutes and other woodwinds.

I find this works well on more than you may think it does.
Sure, it is not going to be for all - but for character, you got it in bucketloads.
