1. Plug-in does not use specific convolution impulses. 2. Better optimizations are not possible since plug-in uses a lot of processing stages: you can see how CPU load drops when stages are disabled. Every stage is pretty CPU-hungry while 'valve' saturation takes half the CPU load. You may also pay attention to the 'oversampling' setting ('1x' is the lowest setting that takes minimum of CPU).
