Hi Aleksey,

I'm new here and not an expert on audio technology etc so apologies if this seems a rather basic question.

I'm converting some old material with r8brain Free from 16 bit / 44.1kHz to 32 bit / 96kHz for remastering.

I understand the bit depth conversion in r8brain is limited to flat dithering which is fine, but I'm unclear as to whether this has any negative effect (or any effect at all) when converting up rather than down.  Should noise shaping dithering be used when converting bit depth up?

Thanks in anticipation,
Mark Robinson

No need to use noise shaping when increasing bit depth (it is rather counter-productive).  Noise-shaped dithering should only be used when decreasing bit-depth.
