Limiting in Stages

This topic was last updated 180 days ago, and thus it can be considered old.  Replying is disabled for this topic.

I have heard some people claim that it is more effective to apply mastering limiting in stages (for example, two passes through Elephant reducing the peaks -3 db each time) instead of passing through once reducing peaks by -6 db.

What are your thoughts on this?  Do you recommend this approach?  If so, do you recommend similar or different limiter settings for each instance?

Thanks!

I can't recommend that, because in my opinion this increases distortion.  Elephant's modes already implement built-in techniques to reduce distortion.

Several passes can be used for artistic coloration.

Thanks - I appreciate your thoughts on this.

You are welcome!
